Ely Cathedral

The present building was begun in the 11th Century under Abbot Simeon becoming a cathedral in 1109. A major restoration took place in the 18th Century and a second in 1839 under the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. The most recent and largest restoration began in 1986 and was completed in 2000.
